How do I destroy some military dog tags?

Good question. Maybe get a hammer and a punch and punch a bunch of holes on and around your social.
Hammering them on a flat surface or perhaps heating with a torch/drop into a fireplace will disfigure the digits enough I would think. RR tracks are another way, but this is actually illegal….
Depending on the material they are made from i would put them in a vise grip and hammer them bent, snap them in half, have at them with some wire snips, and toss them in a river or lake. It sounds silly but it is quite effective
Melt them down
Why do you want to throw them away? I have my Hubby’s dog tags in my home in a safe place.
no need to destroy them, just take a device to scratch out your SSN and your good to go.
Just dig a hole somewhere and bury them, maybe in 1000 years someone will dig them up and they will be put in a museum.
Tin snips.
Cut them in several pieces like you would a credit card, etc..
just bury them in the ground so that if some day if you changed your mind you can dig them again
